I Have Reduced Poverty In My Constituency - Owode
The Honourable member representing the people of Ijebu East State Constituency, Hon. Owode Wasiu Ifedolapo has revealed a catalogue of projects he undertook two years while in office, stating that he had reduced poverty in his state constituency through stomach infrastructure among other laudable projects.
Responding to questions from a journalist in his Oke-Mosan office, he stressed the need for the electorates to give him a second mandate so as to consolidate on his achievements in office.
Excerpts:
Q: Two years in the hallow chambers, what has been your success story?
A: The people of my state constituency gave me the mandate to represent them at the hallow chambers this I have continued to do diligently with available resource in my disposal.
I was appointed as the Chairman House Committee on Agriculture by extension the Deputy Minority Whip of the house, over the years we have made laws that has added value to the lives of the people, more importantly in the area of agriculture, considering the fact that agriculture is a sector that can generate enough revenue for the government, create jobs and even enhance food sufficiency for the people.
Before the discovery of oil, agriculture was the major income of revenue to the coffers of government and I believe strongly we could still revitalize that sector in the area of palm oil production, cassava production because this will enhance a balance of trade, encourage exportation while the country will earn good foreign exchange.
Critical steps had been taken to reinvigorate our farm settlement while we encourage the youths to be involved in the process. I sponsored several youth on this drive scholarship where freely given to the less privileged so that they will be economically empowered, I also supported students in tertiary institutions, sunk boreholes in all wards.
Others included solar street light among several other stomach infrastructures, in the area of road rehabilitation, rural roads were graded which had gone a long way in ameliorating the hardship of the people.
There has been a cordial relationship between the legislative and executive culminating to the various successes recorded in the state over the years. Recently the state commissioned its first airport while flight operations have commenced in harnessed.
The state government encouraged all the lawmakers in the state to submit a list of road projects that need urgent attention in our various constituencies which we have submitted and are receiving attention from Mr Governor.
Q: Are you interested in aspiring for a second term in office?
A: In the last two years, I have been able to implemented a very strong foundation that needed to be built upon with the collective will of the people therefore I will like to solicit for the corporation of the people so that we can move our fatherland to a greater height.
On this note I will like to commend the right Honourable speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly for his unflinching support over the years more importantly the Governor of the state, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun there collaborative efforts to further reposition the state not just as the gateway state to the Nigerian economy also redefined the state as the destination of choice for investors.
Having said that, I appreciated the various political leaders in my state constituency for their supports, starting from Hon. Ladi Adebutu, Hon, Awobadejo and all ward leaders, I will like to assure them that the best is yet to come.
